Malta Middle School held its preliminary spelling bee on Monday during Mrs. Clausen’s English classes to select the top two spellers from each period to compete in the Middle School Bee on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Contestants included 6th graders Scarlett Marino, Archer James, Rio Oxarart, and Aidree Math; 7th graders McKenzie Ereaux, Macey Lien, Beau Nelson, and Isla Dunbar; and 8th graders Trace Stolem, Olivia Ritchey, Ben Hould, and Nolan Moore.

After 14 challenging rounds, 7th grader McKenzie Ereaux was named the winner, with 8th grader Ben Hould earning runner-up honors. Also placing in the bee were Aidree Math, Trace Stolem, and Scarlett Marino. Alternates Macey Lien and Olivia Ritchey will join them as the top 5 contestants and 2 alternates prepare to represent Malta Middle School at the Phillips County Spelling Bee in Saco on February 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.

Jan. 21, 2026, Montana schools raced to claim $7.2 million of tax credits available for people and businesses to made donations to public schools through the Innovative Educational Program Tax Credit Program ran by the Montana Department of Revenue. The $7.2 million was claimed in just over 7 minutes.
Malta Public Schools was very fortunate to receive 11 donations totaling $63,500 from local citizens and businesses. We were also fortunate enough to claim tax credits for the full amount before the funds were exhausted. Individuals and businesses who made donations were able to receive dollar-for-dollar tax credits which can be used on their Montana Income Tax Returns.
Malta Schools will be able to use this money for:
-transformational and advanced learning opportunities;
-programs, services, and instructional equipment to assist students with disabilities;
-courses that provide work-based learning opportunities or post-secondary credit or career certifications for our students;
-technology enhancements, capital improvements, and necessary equipment to support innovative programs.

Malta Schools sincerely thanks all of the people and businesses who made generous donations to support Malta Schools.
